Martin Kuhn
Dressage was a natural part of Martin Kuhn’s life growing up at StarWest. As a junior rider, he had national success on the Arabian circuit with Star Sir Marhalt, a gelding bred by his grandfather, John R. Martin, and trained by his mother, Alice Martin.
In 2002, Kuhn began his partnership with Romulus, an Oldenburg gelding trained by Gerhard Politz. Kuhn and Romulus were members of the 2002 and 2003 Region Two North American Young Rider Team. They won the Team Gold and Bronze medals there, and Martin placed 5th individually.
In 2004, Kuhn was participated in the Dressage Foundation’s Olympic Dream program through which he spent 10 days in Europe observing the training of some of the best trainers in the world including Klaus Balkenhol and Ingrid Klimke.
A USDF Bronze and Silver medalist, Kuhn is a USDF Certified Instructor through Second Level. In 2006 he was invited to participate as a demo rider in the USDF National
Symposium and as demo rider in Hilltop Farm’s Young Horse Trainers Symposium. Kuhn regularly continues his own education by working with Gerhard Politz and Col. Christian Carde during their clinics at StarWest. He has also apprenticed as a working student for Gerhard Politz. Kuhn has trained a variety of breeds of horses at different stages of training, from unstarted to Grand Prix.
