Elizabeth Madlener Clinic
Elizabeth Madlener, USEF “S” Dressage judge and USDF “L” Faculty member, first came onto the national scene when she and her two off-the-track Thoroughbreds, Jonathan Swift and Gulliver, were selected for training by USET Dressage Coach Col. Bengt Ljungquist in 1977. In 1978 Elizabeth and Jonathan dominated the USET World Cup Screening Trials, PSG Division, winning by 30 points. She subsequently brought many other horses to national honors, including ATA Horse of the year Donetz who was USDF and AHSA national champion at 3rd and 4th level; Waldgraf. 2md and 3rd level, USDF and AHSA national champion, and Gulliver, reserve champion, 4th level. Her final show horse, Parat, Hanovarian, was 6th at Intermediaire II in the Lungquist Championships in 1994.
An eclectic horsewoman, Elizabeth was president of the Maryland Horse Center (formerly the Potomac Horse Center) between 1985 and 1994; president of the Maryland Horse Council between 1994 and 1998, member of the gubernatorial appointed committee, the Maryland Horse Industry Board, between 1999 and 2003.
Her articles have appeared in Equus, The Chronicle of the Horse, Dressage Today, (where she was Contributing Editor from 1999 to 2003), Practical Horseman (which published her book, Putting Your Horse on the Bit), The Equiery, and most recently in the USDF Collections.
She currently trains riders and horses in Brandywine, MD., travels extensively as a clinician, a judge, and an “L” examiner. Holding a Masters in English, Elizabeth is also an adjunct professor at Prince George’s Community College and is the author of a grammar book, English Basics.
